The Tour

Moselle cycle path and Lorelei

Picturesque vineyards, castles, palaces and fortresses line the Moselle cycle path. Roman ruins, quaint half-timbered houses and countless wineries invite you to visit. From Koblenz, you’ll be able to enjoy a boat trip to the Lorelei rock, which has inspired countless folk songs and tales, before comfortably cycling back along the Rhine. The bike paths are well-developed and easy to cycle even for inexperienced cyclists.

Day 1 Arrival in Trier
The Roman monuments of Augusta Treverorum are a UNESCO World Heritage Site: Porta Nigra, amphitheatre and the Roman bridge, across which cars are still allowed to drive.

Day 2 Trier - Trittenheim, approx. 40 km / 25 mi
Follow the bends of the Moselle through vineyards and villages. The two ferry towers of the former Ponten ferry and the customs house in Trittenheim are well worth seeing.

Day 3 Trittenheim - Zeltingen, approx. 35 km / 22 mi
You’ll first cycle to Neumagen-Drohn, the oldest wine town in Germany. Try the famous Bernkasteler Doctor, an exceptional Riesling wine, and stroll through the historic town centre of Bernkastel-Kues with its many colourful half-timbered houses.

Day 4 Zeltingen - Zell, approx. 35 km / 22 mi
Today, you’ll once again cycle below famous vineyards. The half-timbered houses in Enkirch are worth seeing, as well as the stunning panoramic view of Zell.

Day 5 Zell - Treis-Karden, approx. 50 km / 31 mi
Vineyards and castles line your path along the Moselle. In Cochem, take the chairlift up to the Pinnerkreuz and enjoy the view across the Moselle valley.

Day 6 Treis-Karden - Koblenz, approx. 40 km / 25 mi
The university town of Koblenz is calling. The Old Castle, the Electoral Palace and the cultural centre Forum Confluentes with the Mittelrhein Museum await you. The Ehrenbreitstein Fortress offers a great view of the city and the Deutsches Eck (German Corner), a headland where the Moselle joind the Rhine.

Day 7 Excursion to St. Goarshausen, 40 km/25 mi+boat trip
Today you’ll follow the Rhine and board a boat to take you to St. Goarshausen and the Lorelei rock. You’ll cycle back to Koblenz via Boppard with its Roman fort, beautiful Rhine promenade and the medieval town of Rhens.
